SCANIA STEERING WHEEL EVOLUTION HISTORY


For the last 50 years, driver's working condition has big change. In 50s last century, drivers had to hold the cold, steel and rubber made steering wheel to drive. And today, the wheel is accord to ergonomics, combined with many functional buttons. All you need to do is to press the buttons, job done.














SCANIA MODULE DESIGN


SCANIA design method was module, no matter on trucks or bus, they are the same steering wheels. Of course, they had different materials for custom made, and different buttons.










1970S



SCANIA engineers strived for intuitive, you didn't need to check manual book to know the functions of buttons.











SAFETY IS ALL


In all design of SCANIA, it was very cautious to make any change, to make sure new functions and buttons would not affect drivers habits.










1900S


SCANIA used developing simulator, especially tested drivers eyes, also tended to avoid distraction of drivers.













2000S


What would be the look of future steering wheel?  SCANIA designers have the answers. It will be more intelligent, like your smart phone, easy and intuitive, and more audio control will be there.

SCANIA 50 YEARS IN CHINA

In 1965, first batch of SCANIA trucks arrived, for forestry use in Heilongjiang province. From 60s to 70s last century, Chinese government procured more than 700 SCANIA trucks , mainly used for heavy duty in north east region and Yunan province. This was SCANIA 110 truck , in a tree farm. In 1974, one timber transport SCANIA truck with 14L V8 engine , was showed on a exhibition in Haerbin city. That's SCANIA LS140 , V8.
