Volkswagen releases hydrogen fuel concept car for up to 500 kilometers

According to foreign media reports, as part of the full launch (howo parts, howo truck parts) of the new zero-emission vehicle program, Volkswagen has announced a new concept car, the Crafter HyMotion, which uses a hydrogen fuel cell powertrain. The car is designed for a longer journey and has a greater payload capacity than its electric predecessor e-Crafter.

It is understood that e-Crafter's car lithium-ion battery can drive 173 kilometers every time, but if you use 7.5 kg of hydrogen fuel tank, you can make the cruising range more than 500 kilometers. The car consumes 1.4 kilograms of hydrogen per 100 kilometers, and the addition is only 4 minutes.

Volkswagen says that the Crafter HyMotion is the same as today's diesel cars, and it has joined the ranks of hydrogen-powered trucks and heavy-duty haulers that more and more car manufacturers are developing. With long-range cruising range and fast refueling, these hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are ideal for long-distance cargo shipments.

However, the public is also very clear about the current situation. At present, the production cost of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is higher than that of electric vehicles (howo, howo parts), but the company estimates that by 2025, the manufacturing cost of this type of car will drop to the level comparable to that of traditional electric cars.

By that time, Volkswagen also predicted that the number of hydrogen fuel supply stations will increase significantly. By 2023, the number of hydrogen fuel supply stations in Germany will reach 400 or so, and it still has only 50.

Although the Crafter HyMotion is still a concept car, Volkswagen said that the technology is close to the production stage, and if the infrastructure is perfect and the cost of parts is reduced, the car will become more feasible.
